What is CBD?

Here at Annie’s Apothecary, we know you probably have a lot of questions about CBD. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of our most frequently asked questions to better help you learn about this amazing and natural product.

What Is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a component of the cannabis plant which has non-intoxicating properties. CBD (cannabidiol) is one of over 84 active chemical compounds (or ‘cannabinoids’) found in the hemp plant. At Annie’s Apothecary, our organic full-spectrum CBD oil is harvested from purified, lab-tested industrial hemp.
How Does CBD Work?
CBD activates receptors in the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a secondary nervous system found in all mammals. These receptors control some of our most vital life functions, including our anxiety, mood, pain sensation, appetite, nausea and sleep patterns.
What Are The Benefits of CBD?
Due to FDA regulations, and the fact that we’re not doctors, we cannot make medical claims. The products sold from this website are considered nutritional supplements or personal care products, according to FDA guidelines.

We encourage you to discuss the benefits of hemp oil with your physician or healthcare practitioner.

Will CBD Oil Help Me With My Illness?
CBD is a cannabinoid that works within your endocannabinoid system, which controls bodily functions such as mood, appetite, pain and memory.

Even with this being said, we aren’t doctors (as is stated in our disclaimer), so we can’t definitively say that this is your “miracle pill” by any means. However, we can state that CBD has been proven to help maintain a healthy lifestyle. Whether it for post-workout recovery, supporting a calm demeanor, inflammation, and even anxiety, CBD does help.

Is CBD Legal?
Yes, all of our products are legal! Thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, all CBD products are 100% legal throughout the United States. CBD has already been legalized for medicinal use in developed countries like England, Canada and Australia. In 2014, the Missouri legislature legalized CBD hemp extracts for a single medicinal purpose – intractable epilepsy. In April 2018 the FDA approved the first CBD-based prescription medication (Epidiolex) for patients with hard-to-treat seizures. Ongoing research for other uses of CBD are currently being studied. Patient advocacy groups are working to legalize all hemp-derived products.
Can I Get High From CBD?
Absolutely not. In order to be legally considered hemp, the hemp plant must contain less than 0.3% THC. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the psychoactive chemical compound found in cannabis. The 0.3% amount of THC is negligible and cannot produce a high. In fact, CBD is known to counteract the psychoactive properties of THC.
Will I Develop A Tolerance To CBD Over Time?
According to the World Health Organization: “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicitave of any abuse or dependence potential.”

The World Health Organization continues to study CBD as “another possible therapeutic application which has been investigated is the use of CBD to treat drug addiction. A recent systematic review concluded that there were a limited number of preclinical studies which suggest that CBD may have therapeutic properties on opioid, cocaine, and psychostimulant addiction, and some preliminary data suggest that it may be beneficial in cannabis and tobacco addiction in humans.”
